S4K return to international touring |
|
Children’s favourites Shakespeare 4 Kidz are to tour again.
The economic climate and other commitments forced the company to put its touring schedule on hold this autumn.
But the good news is that it is now back with a new swagger in the new year as a prelude to the exciting movie version it is planning of Romeo and Juliet.
When it comes to making the Bard’s plays fun for children Shakespeare 4 Kidz is in a class of its own.
S4K has introduced millions of young people to the magical world of Shakespeare over the last 15 years with its modern musical adaptations of not only Romeo and Juliet but also Macbeth, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Twelfth Night, The Tempest and even Hamlet.
Kids love them because they can understand them. The complicated stories and complex text are simplified by the use of modern language linking together the most famous and best-loved lines. And there are catchy songs and dances too.
S4K goes out on the road for a short tour beginning at the Wakefield Theatre Royal & Opera House on January 17 and ending at the Ellesmere Port Civic (already sold out!) on February 7 and 8.
It will then visit the Gulf and Emirates for a tour to Dubai, Sharjah, Oman, Qatar and Bahrain.
The production will feature many of the popular cast who have played the roles before and be directed by its co-writer and S4K founder Julian Chenery.
Chenery is thrilled to have one of his shows on tour again.
“The theatres we have chosen to visit are places there is traditionally a massive demand to see us and where we have been playing to packed houses for years and years.
“We also want to give the creative team who will be working on the film version of Romeo and Juliet the chance to see how audiences react in a live environment: why certain gags and songs work; why we use modern dress and it’s not all about thees and thous and wigs and tights.
“We know we have got the recipe right for the stage and want to make sure that it is perfect when translated to film.”
Totally against prohibitive restoration fees, booking fees and other ways of taxing child tickets, the company is pledging to keep schoolchild ticket prices to £10 – to include VAT and with no booking fees.
The company also offers school drama workshops on all of its titles plus play-in-a-day cross curricular school experiences based on Macbeth (Mini Macbeth) and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Day Dream).
