| S4K and the Children's University challenge |
|
Shakespeare 4 Kidz is now officially in a class of its own. We have been accredited as an “official learning destination” for the Children’s University . S4K will be offering an exciting learning activity called Spellbinding Shakespeare: an introduction to the world’s greatest writer. It will take children into the enthralling literary world of kings and queens, witches, fairies, ghosts, love and laughter. This is a unique national project which is supported by the Department for Children, Schools and Families . Pupils aged seven to 14 can work towards achieving bronze, silver and gold awards by clocking up hours of activity. Students who take part in Spellbinding Shakespeare can earn six hours and there are several ways to do it. * You can take part in an S4K workshop based on any of the company’s six titles (two hours).* You can see a professional Shakespeare 4 Kidz production at your local theatre (two and a half hours). * You can write a review or draw a picture to reflect what you thought of the show and send it to S4K where it may be selected to go our website (one and a half hours). Everyone who completes their six hours with S4K will earn an official stamp for their CU passport. Julian Chenery, S4K’s founder, said: “Shakespeare 4 Kidz is delighted to be associated with the Children’s University, an organisation that is dedicated to out-of-hours learning. “This exciting, pioneering method of education is the best of both worlds: it combines the rich cultural heritage of the past with the dynamic learning techniques of the future and is certain to involve and inspire many, many young people.” For more information about the Children’s University and all the courses it has to offer see www.childrensuniversity.co.uk Ends NOTE TO EDITORS 1. S4K ROMEO: "I just wanted to say a huge thank you for a fantastic workshop and a superb performance of "Romeo and Juliet" at the Ashcroft Theatre (16th November). The children thoroughly enjoyed both experiences and are now quoting Shakespeare and singing your songs around the school!" |
