Lucky kidz can star in S4K's Macbeth

One of the most talked-about shows to tour the UK this winter, the Shakespeare 4 Kidz thrilling musical Macbeth, is coming to Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the spring.

And the show is giving lucky local kids the chance to take part.

As well as a full company of 14 professional actors and musicians, Macbeth needs a young boy to play the crucial role of Macduff’s brave son. Macbeth is the story of an ambitious Scottish warrior who, encouraged by the prophecies of three witches and his evil greedy wife, will stop at nothing until he has claimed the throne to become king.

But before he can wear the crown himself he must murder King Duncan and even his best friend Banquo.

The musical is full of weird witches and spooky spells that make Harry Potter and his friends look like amateurs. There are bloody battles, gruesome ghosts and even a forest which moves.

All of Shakespeare’s wonderful story is told in two hours, using the most famous original lines mixed in with modern language so it is easy for people of all ages to understand. There are songs and dances too.

Playing the role of Macbeth for the third time is Jason Lee Scott, a performer with a mesmerising stage presence and great voice who has appeared with S4K on tours to the Gulf States as Claudius in Hamlet and the Prince in Romeo and Juliet.

This will be the company’s fourth visit to the Gulf, having had sell-out tours with A Midsummer Night’s Dream in 2007, Hamlet in 2008 and a stunning Romeo and Juliet in 2009.

S4K is one of Britain’s most accomplished and highly regarded Shakespearean theatre companies.

There are six plays in its repertoire, with scripts by Julian Chenery and Matt Gimblett (with a little help from William Shakespeare of course!). And breaking news is that they are all going to be made into major feature films with terrific 3-D effects very soon, starting with Hamlet.

UK critics have been unanimous in their praise for S4K’s innovative telling of Macbeth. Here is what some of them have said:

“This is as thrilling a production of Macbeth as I’ve seen and a lively audience of ten year olds at Mansfield Palace simply loved it.” The Stage

“I wish I had been able to see the Shakespeare 4 Kidz version of Macbeth when I was at primary school.” WhatsOnStage

“As an introduction to Shakespeare it’s just the job, especially when Jason Lee Scott as Macbeth possesses both fine acting skills and a fantastic voice.” Digyorkshire

“One thing is certain…children in all the audiences S4K play to will not be scared of Shakespeare or regard it with almost traditional suspicion but will have a memory of a gripping play which they enjoyed.”  The British Theatre Guide

“The whole show was well-acted, funny, scary and thoroughly enjoyable for the whole family.” Salford Advertiser

“ Five stars. Screwing their courage to the sticking place, Messrs Chenery and Gimblett have bravely added Macbeth to their growing library of S4K transformations.” Croydon Advertiser

S4K MACBETH: "One thing is certain: the children in that audience - and, of course, in all the other audiences S4K play to - will not be scared of Shakespeare or regard it with almost traditional suspicion but will have a memory of a gripping play whcih they enjoyed. And that can only be a good thing!"
