S4K sign up to the RSC Shakespeare Manifesto
Thursday, 20 December 2007

Shakespeare 4 Kidz has today pledged its unequivocal and 100% support for the new Shakespeare Manifesto to be launched by the RSC in February 2008.

The document, which is designed to highlight best practice in the teaching of Shakespeare in junior and primary schools, contains three key elements: "Do It On Your Feet", "See It Live" and "Start It Earlier" - three fundamentals that have been at the heart of S4K's work since its inception in the mid-nineties.

The RSC has consulted teachers, students, policymakers and theatre companies - such as Shakespeare 4 Kidz, The National Theatre and The Globe - to uncover what makes Shakespeare exciting and accessible for young people of all ages, ability levels and backgrounds.

Shakespeare 4 Kidz Founder and Chidef Executive signed up for the Shakespeare Manifesto with this message of support:

"Since our inception in 1996, Shakespeare 4 Kidz have pioneered a Creative Shakespeare Education programme amongst Junior and Primary Schools here and abroad. We are delighted that the RSC – through the Shakespeare Manifesto – now endorses the innovative techniques, creative ideas and good practices that form the heart of our unique work.

Do it – see it – start early. Simple, yet brilliant. S4K is living testimony that the Manifesto’s three key points work; we are proud to support it and urge other stakeholders and practitioners to do so. Bravo RSC! Encore!"

What they say about us:

"In particular, I really admire the ways in which you have made a play that is not on the wavelength (that they will admit to !) of boys in this age group enjoyable for them as well. It was a fantastic introduction to Shakespeare."
