Gibraltar Chronicle: Young Local Actors Join in Shakespeare 4 Kidz

FROM THE GIBRALTAR CHRONICLE

Shakespeare 4 Kidz are back this week with a child-friendly musical version of the Scottish Play – Macbeth. Joining the cast on stage are two young budding local actors Alex Vallejo from St Anne’s and Rory Clark from St Joseph’s who will share the role of McDuff’s son over the next four performances.

shakey-cast-and-boys.jpgSome 3,500 pupils expected to see the production. Written and directed by Chief executive Julian Chenery, he told the Chronicle, they always selected young actors from the town they were performing in proving a fantastic experience for both cast, young actors, and the audience. 20 children auditioned for the role locally. Both Rory or Alex admitted the language of Shakespeare was very different, and although it had not been easy had enjoyed learning their lines, and were looking forward to the experience of being on stage with professional actors.

First on stage today and tomorrow is Rory who admits is nervous but enjoying the moment knowing his friends will find it cool. Rory attends Stagecoach. Alex takes over on Thursday and Friday. He says he loves acting and feels just great about getting back on stage (he recently performed in the very successful St Anne’s school production of ‘El Tishe’ in the role of Mr Britto), and worked with Sylvia Young last summer. Both boys on the We Care project and said they aspired to be as good as the actors he would be sharing the stage with this week.

What they say about us:

S4K ROMEO: "I have heard many parents of children older than mine pass on very positive comments about how well received this has been with the children who saw it through school, that although for some this was their first experience of Shakespeare how easily they 'knew' the story afterwards - it was not lost on them - and that they saw this is as approachable and fun and they could identify with it due to the modern touches and humour. Some children are even quoting some of the script after seeing it just once! Wonderful!"
