William "Anonymous" Shakespeare

The movie world is back in love with Shakespeare again - or maybe not in the case of Roland Emmerich's ANONYMOUS which opens in the UK on Friday 28th October.

The movie purports that someone other than William Shakespeare was the true author of his work and creates a cloak-and-dagger thriller that is a cross between Shakespeare in Love and The Da Vinci Code. Our friends at Sony Pictures have asked us to put a couple of clips on our website ...

The film is certainly beautifully made - here's the official trailer

And here is a clip of director Roland Emmerich arguing ten reasons why Shakespeare couldn't possibly be the true author ...

This link explains the argument about who wrote Shakespeare's works in more detail.

UK Tour of S4K's R&J in the Spring?

A combination of reasons means that the S4K Theatre Company won’t be touring the UK during the autumn of 2011 - but there are plans for a brand new production 0f S4K's Romeo & Juliet in the spring.

Back at S4K HQ, JC and the other key creatives and producers have been working hard on the up-coming feature film of S4K’s Romeo & Juliet that is moving into pre-production in September. Casting continues during the autumn, rehearsals start in January and our first movies starts shooting in the UK and on location in February 2012.

Production news will be regularly available via our website and associated Facebook/Twitter pages, as will news of the autumn 2012 release date and where you can see it.

That – along with the recent economic downturn and uncertainty – made us consider that a theatre tour this autumn is not commercially viable. (Remember S4K doesn’t receive any grants, subsidies, Arts Council funding or Lottery funding; and we survive purely on our ticket receipts).

However, plans are already in place for a short UK theatre tour of a brand new production S4K’s Romeo & Juliet in the spring/early summer of 2012, which will incorporate most of the updates and new bits we’re putting into the movie.

More news will appear here during the autumn and via our autumn newsletters to schools.

What they say about us:

S4K TEMPEST:"When the Tempst curtain rose we were bustling with excitement. The performance lived up to expectations. It was really good. Caliban was many peoples favourites. Stefano the drunk was also loved by the audience. We came last year to see Midsummer Nights Dream which was superb and this year we weren't disappointed either. Thank you for giving us a great school trip"
