KS3 Set Scene Seminar
NAA GUIDELINES: KEY STAGE 3
Shakespeare Paper

The NAA states that "The model of the Shakespeare paper remains unchanged.
Each paper (one for each of the two plays) will:

* contain a task based on two extracts, each drawn from one of the set sections
* will be based on one of the following four areas of assessment:

* text in performance
* character and motivation
* language of the text
* ideas, themes and issues.

The two papers may each cover a different area of assessment. This ensures that all areas are covered across the different plays over time and that the areas of assessment selected are best suited to the set sections.

OUR AIM: To bring to life through professional actors the two scenes set for Key Stage 3 S.A.T. making them accessible and fully understood.

CONTENT: This is a supportive and informative 1 hour session which is aimed to assist pupils with their Key Stage 3 S.A.T. on Shakespeare. Two skilled professional actors, with teaching knowledge and experience, focus on the two set scenes selected for Key Stage 3.

First, pupils interact with the unique and easily understood Shakespeare 4 Kidz version of the scenes. This is then gradually substituted by Shakespeare’s language, once the foundation of understanding is in place.

The questions that are explored adhere to S.A.T. questions on character empathy, atmosphere and mood, and directorial choices. These questions are investigated practically, through group interaction. A question and answer consolidation then closes this session.
